Veronica Rodriguez
ALAS Board Member, Mariachi Coordinator
Hello I'm Veronica Rodriguez. I am a founding ALAS Board Member. I was raised in South Central Los Angeles, California. I have a Bachelor Degree in Communications from the University of Southern California. I also worked on a Masters in Industrial Organization from California State University, San Bernardino. I met my husband at USC. We were College Sweethearts! We have been married for 20 years. My husband and I moved to HMB and have raised our 3 boys here in this wonderful community.
When my boys were young I was part of the School Site Council Committee at Hatch Elementary and Cunha Intermediate School. During those years I was able to advocate for the HMB students who were in need of additional resources. I also was the Amity Scholar Coordinator at Hatch Elementary school. I was able to help the PTO bring 4 Amity students to support our students in the classroom and helped the young teachers adapt to life in the USA. I continue to be in awe of the amazing Cabrillo Unified School District teachers that work so hard to support our youth. Together Amazing Teachers and Engaged HMB Parents are transforming our youth in HMB.
In addition, I have been the Mariachi Media Luna Coordinator since 2013. Our program has grown as our students have grown. They began as shy performers. Now half of our students are in High school and half are in middle school. They have traveled all over the Bay Area performing. They opened the show for Tigres del Norte and Mariachi Vargas. They have also performed at numerous Gala events for the Latino Community Foundation. This past March they were the Halftime Show performers for the Warrior at Hispanic Heritage Night. Working with the Mariachi program has been very rewarding. We have been able to guide these young students to be great Ambassadors for the best our HMB Latino Community has to offer.
Our work with the ALAS Board has been to develop a community program that would support the needs of our HMB youth and families. I am very proud of the growth and services that the community partners have helped build. This amazing organization has been built by all of our efforts. I am very Thankful for ALAS to me is... FAMILY.
