 History and Mission

Ayudando Latinos A Soñar, or ALAS is a Latino centered non profit that began as a grassroots program in 2011. We are a recognized California non profit, 501c3. ALAS Founding Board of Directors continue to give countless hours of time to develop and create vision for this program that has become a community space of support. Our work honors the cultural strengths that thrive in our Latino Coastal community. We believe that cultura inspires and heals the soul, opening doors for community leadership and engagement.

ALAS' programs initiated with our cultural arts programs and have grown our services to include culturally centered mental health services, wrap around case management, immigration and social justice advocacy as well as our educational program. ALAS is committed to working with children, youth, families, farmworkers, asylum seekers, seniors and our general Coastside community.

Our vibrant and community centered programs include Ballet Folklorico Tonantzin, Mariachi Media Luna, Mexitli Education and La Misma Luna Wellness. We believe that cultura inspires and heals the soul, opening doors for community wealth, leadership, activism and engagement to flourish.  Our community , families, board and staff have contributed to making ALAS a dream come true.

We work hard to inspire trust, build safe spaces, advocate for our community and support the healthy development of our children. We value each family and individual we work with, honoring the
immigrant journeys that many have traveled to bring their special gift of cultural wealth to our community. At ALAS, somos familia!

ALAS has been built by our community coming together to create a space for celebration, healing, community engagement, advocacy. and hope. We are grateful to everyone that has poured love into ALAS to give us wings to fly and be there for the community! Thank you for visiting our website and learning more about our organization,. Let us know if you would like to find ways to get involved!       Dr. Belinda Hernandez Arriaga Ed.D, L.C.S.W., , Founder and Executive Director of ALAS
