Mariachi Program

Traveling from around the Bay to come to our coastal town, our teachers come from as far as Salinas and Gilroy to provide instruction. Rigo Campos of San Jose organizes our program that includes instruction in Violin, Trumpet, Guitar, Vihuela, Guitaron and Voice. Our youth get instruction in instruments- growing their skills to be able to learn the art of mariachi Each of our instructors are part of their own Mariachi groups. Rigo Campos has been studying mariachi since he was eleven years old, growing up in San Jose California and now teaching the next generation of mariachi guitar students in Half Moon Bay..  Rafael Torres-Violin and Silverio Andrade-Trumpet.

Our Performances

Our youth are always working hard to learn and grow in mariachi. It has been an honor to see the our youth perform around the Bay Area and most recently opening for grammy award wining Los Tigres del Norte in Sonoma. They have also opened for Mariachi Vargas de Tenochtitlan in San Jose, California. Both our intermediate and beginner groups perform in a yearly Christmas show, Noche en Mexico and our Spring concert. We are proud to see our youth perform locally in our community at numerous events where our families are proud to see the next generation of mariachis continue in the United States.

"Mariachi is like a family to me, when I fall in school no one picks me up, but here in Mariachi they will give me a hand and help me like a family'

Mariachi Spirit

The first families that settled from Mexico to Half Moon Bay were from Cocula, Mexico. Cocula is known as the birthplace of mariachi. In Half Moon Bay we have a legacy of mariachi that runs deep in the history of our community. For our youth to have the opportunity to learn and perform the art of mariachi represents a spirit of orgullo or pride that is present when our youth sing and play. Our youth work very hard to learn their instrument and dedicate hours of practice and time to be able to study this special art of their families. The stage comes alive when our youth sing and perform. Leaders are built through our program of mariachi. We have witnessed our youth develop stronger self esteem, confidence, improve academic performance and build a mariachi family.
